Gravelling FAQs
Everything you need to know before getting in touch
How deep should gravel be for a driveway?
For a driveway, we recommend a minimum depth of 50mm (2 inches) of gravel over a compacted sub-base and weed membrane. This provides a stable surface that drains freely and prevents rutting under vehicle weight.
Will gravel spread everywhere?
With proper edging installed — whether brick, timber, or metal — gravel stays neatly contained. We always install quality edging as part of our gravelling service to prevent migration onto lawns and pavements.
Does gravel need maintenance?
Gravel requires very little maintenance. We install weed membrane beneath the gravel to suppress weeds. Occasionally you may need to rake the surface level and top up with a fresh layer every few years.
